‘Tis the Season, Happy Oktoberfest!

Summer’s great but fall’s better. You can sip and savor in 60+ NYC beer gardens sansĀ  stifling heat. And of course mid-September through early October corresponds to our favorite “holiday” season: Oktoberfest!

Check out our Oktoberfest update, which includes links to the 2012 celebrations in NYC and several other U.S. cities. And of course, if you’re in the New York area, or planning a visit, download our app. It’s a must-have guide to NYC beer gardens at any time, but especially at Oktoberfest.

Happy Oktoberfest-ing,

Hope & Raj

Weekend Update: Seth Meyers, Time Out New York & Beer Gardens NYC

Sometimes surprises are good.

This week’s annual “Expert’s Guide to NYC” issue of Time Out New York featured Beer Gardens NYC as one of its five must-have apps to be a shrewd city dweller. The issue featured SNL’s Seth Meyers, best known for his shtick as “Weekend Update” anchor, as NYC guide with smart phone in hand.

Thanks to Seth Meyers, Time Out New York, and tech savvy reporter, Associate Features Editor Sarah Bruning.

Birreria: Manhattan’s most civilized beer garden

Here in that area of the Northeastern United States known as NYC Landia, spring has definitely sprung–and yet those “darling buds” (to paraphrase The Bard) are as yet blowing in a pretty blustery breeze. Alas!

But fear not. Several beer gardens listed in our app, notably Eataly’s Birreria, have enclosures that allow patrons to enjoy the Great Outdoors without actually being there. (If you really, REALLY need the nature trek, afterwards head for Madison Square Park kitty corner across the street).

Birreria’s state-of-the-art retractable roof affords patrons the opportunity to savor great beers and eats along with stunning views of the Manhattan skyscape year-round. So civilized! Small wonder Birreria made our app’s coveted (and totally subjective) Top Pick status. What can we say? We like to sip our cask beer in comfort. Speaking of which…

Care to guess where we’ll be logging in time this weekend?

TGIF,

Hope & Raj

Make Tracks this Holiday Season…

While the Hope half of the Beer Gardens NYC team has been globetrotting and mountain climbing–and corn beer quaffing–the Raj half has been minding the NYC base camp–and making Tracks with a cool new app that is fast revolutionizing the digital photo sharing experience. Forget Snapfish, forget Flickr, these photo albums on the fly–tracksbring mobile storytelling out of the static sphere and into the social network for a truly interactive experience.

Oh, and by the by, Tracks is currently offered for FREE. Quelle economy-conscious cyber stocking stuffer! :)

A Top 10 Photo App in 82 countries and the USA, Tracks has garnered major press attention on the tech scene. But don’t take our word for it. Check out these latest press links.

Got Chicha!

Locals chill out with chicha. As you can see, it's exciting stuff.

Hola Beer Peeps:

The Hope half of the Beer Gardens NYC team is back from Peru, home of Inca archeological goodness–the Inca City of Machu Picchu celebrates the 100th anniversary of its rediscovery this 2011 year–great hiking, and yes, beer!

Chicha, Peruvian corn beer, has a fascinating history that lives on in the local chicherias found in nearly every Andean town.

Bar Central?

To learn more about chicha, sapo, and other fun deets on my Peruvian pub stop, check out my guest blog today at the uber cool BooksAndBrews.

Holidays are hectic. C’mon over and have a beer with me. :)

Happy Holidays–and Happy Trails,

Hope & Raj

Belated Happy Samhain

Raj & Hope put on the Ritz at this year's Dances of Vice "Beyond the Veil" Murder Mystery Ball. Riverside Church, Manhattan NY.

We hope you had a very happy Halloween/Samhain–we most definitely did!

Beer garden season is (sadly) coming to a close in most parts of the country but here at Beer Gardens NYC we prefer to think of it not as an ending but as a hibernation, a well-deserved nap.

For tips on beer gardening in colder temps, check out our article in The Huffington Post.

Happy All Saints Day,

Hope & Raj

Globally Yours, Part II

What’s better than having users of our app in a dozen counties in addition to the U.S?

Having them in nearly 20!

To date, Beer Gardens NYC has been downloaded by beer garden enthusiasts in Germany, Canada, the U.K., Japan, The Netherlands, Italy, Norway, Austria, Australia, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Mexico, Denmark, Ireland, India & Panama.

In New York City Landia, we’re keeping the Oktoberfest party going strong with the updated version of our app. Version 2.1 features 63 beer gardens collectively serving more than 1,000 beers.

That’s a lot of beer.

Even better, many of the venues are offering food and beer specials for Oktoberfest. Check out the app and then head out to enjoy these great beer gardens while the fall weather holds.

Happy Oktoberfest!

Raj & Hope get the Oktoberfest party started. Stone Street Oyster Festival 2011.

Oktoberfest’s official beginning, Friday, September 16th, happily coincided with the arrival of fall weather to New York City, and the Raj-meister and I have been taking full advantage of both.

Saturday in NYC saw both The Steuben Day Parade and the Stone Street Oyster Festival, two events we make it a point not to miss.

NYC’s Fourth Annual Craft Beer Week is ongoing and, there are plenty of other great events leading us into October. Check out our Oktoberfest NYC website for a list of events as well as a brief history of this oh so fun fall holiday.

The 63 beer gardens in the 2.1 version of our Beer Gardens NYC app have lots going on, too. Check out their websites (included in the app’s venue information for each beer garden) or call to find out what Oktoberfest goodness they have planned between now and next month.

Happy Oktoberfest!
